Men Love Palin; Women Unconvinced.
A CNN poll released today and reported in the Huffington Post reveals that McCain’s choice of Palin as his running mate has actually decreased his support among women – 53% are now likely to vote for Obama, up from 50% a week ago. In contrast, both men and Republican loyalists seem to love the well-travelled beauty queen, McCain picking up a couple of points among both groups.
As the excellent Jean Hannah Edelstein said yesterday “Palin is like a Republican male fantasy of what a woman should be like, rather than what an ardent Hillary Clinton fan would look for in a female politician.”
Exactly.
More surprising is the fact that 45% of respondents to the same poll said they thought Palin is “qualified to be president”. While this is still low – Dan Quale is the only previous nominee to beat her numbers – I’m still concerned.
Is this the same 45% that think they’ve been abducted by aliens?

Actually, Ben, your scepticism is unfounded. I recommend you (and all keen bsurya blog readers) watch this clip from Larry King last night: Michelle Bachman will definitely persuade any doubters of how much American women are going to LOVE Sarah Palin. “She easily has more qualifications than Senator Obama and Senator Biden put together if you look at executive experience…I think women all across America are going to love what they see in Sarah Palin.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oxZYoVdV7A
